Associate Professor of Emerging Technologies

Overview

What are the implications of corporations, governments, and individuals using technologies for surveillance and for protecting privacy? The topics we’ll cover include surveillance technologies from the classic Panopticon (left top image) to modern digital media systems such as those used in Las Vegas. We will examine examples of corporate, government, and citizen uses of surveillance, as well as research representing individual concerns about privacy. Throughout the course, we will use readings, resources, and lectures to help us understand different perspectives about surveillance and privacy, both pre- and post-9/11.
