TRAVEL GRANTS PROVIDED FOR RENO FACULTY
To Attend NSF EPSCOR Meeting in Las Vegas on February 8, 2008

WHO:  The National Science Foundation and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas

WHAT:  One-day workshop

WHEN:  Friday, February 8, 2008.

WHERE:  UNLV Student Union, Room 208 B&C

WHY:  To learn more about the NSF and its programs.  The workshop will provide an overview of the Foundation, its mission, priorities, and budget.  It will cover the NSF proposal and merit review process and NSF programs that cut across disciplines.

Additionally, representatives from the seven NSF directorates and the Office of International Science and Engineering will make presentations on their programs and will also be available individually and in breakout sessions for more specific discussions of potential research proposals.

The National Science Foundation is charged with keeping our nation’s science and engineering enterprise healthy, dynamic, and relevant and with advancing science, mathematics, engineering, and technology education at all levels from pre-K through postdoctoral.  It is our hope that events such as this will stimulate new interest in NSF programs at institutions that have not been among our traditional customers, as well as at premier research institutions.

HOW:  Register for the meeting with NSF EPSCoR by sending the requested information by email to gwilson@nsf.gov or by faxing or mailing the registration as indicated on the form.

There is no registration fee for this workshop; however, preregistration is required.  Please register by Friday, February 1, 2008.  Also, a map of the UNLV campus can be found at http://maps.unlv.edu/map-main.html.

All NSHE faculty from Reno who have registered for this meeting should send an e-mail to Alice Ward at alice_ward@nshe.nevada.edu to request a travel support grant.  The travel grants will cover the cost for air fare, per diem as well as over-night lodging.  Lodging costs (not to exceed $124.00) are covered due to the early 7:30 a.m. conference start time on February 8.

NOTE:  Each Reno traveler will need to have their home institution process and pay for the original travel costs.  After February 8, 2008, send an email to Alice Ward with an attached invoice (word doc or pdf) requesting reimbursement.  Please include the account number to be reimbursed.  All invoices must be received in the Nevada EPSCoR as soon as possible to assure payment.
