DRI Research Foundation trustees learned firsthand about the Walker Basin Project during a daylong field trip to the Basin on September 26, 2008. DRI scientists discussed several of the research projects they are working on, including a demonstration by Richard Jasoni of the evapotranspiration equipment he is using to measure water loss and calculate water use efficiency from alternative crops grown in the Mason Valley near Yerington.

The Walker Basin Project is a collaborative research effort between DRI and the University of Nevada, Reno designed to explore how best to get more water to Walker Lake while maintaining the Basin's economy and improving the ecosystem of the Walker Lake watershed.

With campuses in Reno and Las Vegas, DRI conducts research in every state in the nation and on every continent in the world. DRI celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.
