That means 'Hello!' in Chinese. Hello everyone and thanks for visiting
me here. My name is Adam McCracken. I'll update this site periodically
with newer pics. I have added a gallery section to my picture pages that includes
my favorites. Also look at my expanding collection of
poems and stories
as well as quotes
that I like. If there's anything you'd like added,
let me know.
recent events...
Summer is ending, and with it my summertime job at Camp Del Webb High Adventure Base.
It is a camp run by the local Boy Scout council and this has been my fourth year as a
staff member. The camp is near Zion National Park, in southern Utah, one of the most
beautiful places in the world. It was tons of fun, and I took a couple pictures that
came out just right. Take a look at the gallery after clicking the next link to see them
and more of my photos. Click here to see them.
a little about myself... my church...
I am an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ
of Latter-day Saints (L.D.S. or Mormon Church), and have served a mission
in Taipei, Taiwan for the Church. I learned Mandarin Chinese while I was
there. If you have any questions about the Church, visit its web page or
email
me. You can view the Church's
Articles
of Faith, a brief synopsis of what we believe. I invite you to read
Why
Do We Serve?, a talk given by Dallin H Oaks, a leader in the Church.
what i'm doing now... I am a student at UNLV. I am studying
Mechanical Engineering, and hope to extend my studies in
that field to the area of prosthetics. Although these are my main focuses, my interests lie in almost every
imaginable field. I am currently working at the Lied
Library (click here for a pic) on the UNLV campus. I am a senior Information Commons Consultant; that's a glorified term for
a computer lab monitor with some supervisory responsibilities. I am also very active in church
activities and events; I attend classes and hang out at the
LDS Institute of Religion on the UNLV
campus. I maintain the web site for the institute, so your feedback and suggestions are appreciated
So, I am kept plenty busy -- busy is good; it keeps me out of any trouble :-) If you care, here is a list of the
classes I'm enrolled in at college, along with a brief
synopsis of the course.
I currently live in , Nevada. I've lived here for over six years now (though
not concurrently). I returned to Las Vegas after two years in Taiwan
as a missionary for the LDS Church (more below). Las Vegas is an interesting
place. It isn't quite what most people expect.
I graduated from Durango
High School in 1996 and have started my college education here in Las
Vegas at UNLV studying
mechanical engineering, which I hope will extend to an advanced degree in
biomechanical engineering. With that background, I would like to go either
into research and design of advanced, computer-controlled prosthetic
devices, or government service.
My dad was in the Air Force, so I've lived in a lot of different places.
(born in Virginia, then on to Japan, Southern California, Washington, Arizona,
Germany, Northern California, Las Vegas, Taiwan, and then back here to
Vegas) I can't really say there is a place I have liked the most -- every
place has it's good points. :-) I love moving to new places and hope to
continue doing so!
I love hiking, camping, and backpacking. For the afficianados of these
sports, there will soon be some pictures of trips I have been on in Red
Rock Canyon and Zion National Park. If anyone is interested in a weekend
trip, write me. :-)
I have worked at two Boy Scout camps in the past; Camp Potosi, near
Las Vegas. and Del Webb High Adventure Base in Southern Utah, near Zion
National Park. I love the Scouting program (I received the Eagle Scout
Award in Spring 1996) and hope to be involved in camp again for the
summer 2002 season. Click here to view
my Scouting patch collection.
I enjoy Broadway musicals, big band, jazz, and various genres of classical
music. (my favorite composers are romantic era) I have played the alto
and baritone saxophone, bassoon, and an assortment of percussion instruments.
I am also an avid singer.
