Name: Jim Matovina
Biography:
Jim has a BS in Math Education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and an MS in Mathematics with a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Statistics from Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana. He has been teaching full-time at CSN since the Fall of 1996, serves as the CSN Math Department webmaster, and has been teaching online math courses since 1998.

Course Information
Number/Title: MATH 120, Fundamentals of College Math
Description:
Topics include problem solving, consumer mathematics, geometry, probability, set theory with Venn diagrams, systems of counting and measurement, and statistics. Course is broad in scope, emphasizing applications. Prerequisite: Appropriate Placement or MATH 096 with a C or better.
Method of
Instruction:
Students will be expected to read the text and Course Notes, do the suggested homework problems, and study the indicated web site materials. Students will also be expected to ask questions and initiate communications with the instructor, as needed.

Internet only, using CSN's Virtual College (Blackboard). Students are required to have Internet access. Once the semester begins, you will go to http://vconline.csn.edu and log into the Virtual College by following the instructions available on that page.

Grading
Homework:
A list of suggested homework assignments will be provided. These assignments are there for your benefit. No textbook assignment will be submitted for grading.
Syllabus
Quiz:
You will begin the course by taking a quiz over the information and policies laid out in this syllabus, and you MUST get a perfect score on it before you are allowed to continue in the course.
Graded
Quizzes:
There will be twelve 10-point, online quizzes. Any Quiz not taken by the specified deadline will be scored as a zero. Absolutely no make-up Quiz will be offered for any reason.
Exams:
Around the middle of the term, there will be a 40-point Mid-Term Exam (MID), and at the end of the term, there will be a 40-point Final Exam (FIN). Any Exam is not taken by the specified deadline will be scored as a zero. Absolutely no make-up Exam will be offered for any reason.
Extra Credit:
Absolutely no extra credit work will be offered in this course.
