“If others would but reflect on mathematical truths as deeply and as continuously as I have, they would make my discoveries.”
--- Karl Friedrich Gauss
Prerequisite Knowledge:
In mathematics, analysis is generally a vertical growth area – i.e. prerequisite knowledge is essential to graduate to the next level of study. To help ensure that students are ready, many math courses have prerequisite course requirements. However, this can be misunderstood to mean that completion of the course is the requirement. In fact, the corresponding requisite knowledge is much more important than simply having completed the course.
Derived from many years in the study of mathematics, the following handouts represent a minimum set of basic information required to succeed in the study of elementary applied mathematics. Responsible students should know these basic things and should know how to apply them properly.
Handouts:
[Upon losing the use of his right eye] “Now I will have less distraction.”
--- Leonhard Euler
