Math 91: Basic Mathematics, Distance Education

Fall 2008 Session - Instructed by Christina Hughes Roldan

This section of Basic Mathematics is taught using a WebCt site. Students communicate with Professor Roldan throughout the semester via website mail, chatroom, or visits to her office. Students are expected to have access to the Internet and be familiar with WebCt in order to complete weekly assignments and obtain course information.

All quizzes in this course are taken online, at home or the place of your convenience. Two online exams (a midterm and a final) are taken in a proctored testing center.

If you are a student enrolled in this course, please do the following:

Step 1: Read and print out the Fall 2008 syllabus.

Step 2: Purchase our class textbook, Basic College Mathematics, 5th Edition by John Tobey and Jeffrey Slater, published by Prentice Hall, ISBN 0-13-149057-5.  You may purchase the textbook from any CSN campus bookstore or online at http://www.efollett.com/ . You don't need any other resources other than your textbook.

Step 3: If you've not yet taken a distance education course that utilizes WebCT, then you will want to familiarize yourself with this program by attending one of the free WebCT Training Workshops: http://www.csn.edu/pages/264.asp. If you are new to WebCT, I very strongly encourage you to attend one of these sessions, either in-class or online. Learning math is difficult enough without having to also figure out the computer stuff on your own!

Step 4: Logon to the class website. You will be able to access our course starting the first day of class, August 25, 2008.

Step 5: If any of the above instructions are not clear, or if you have any other questions about the course, please contact me at tina.roldan@csn.edu .
