Text and materials:
College Algebra Blitzer 5th Edition. Along with the text, you will be required to bring paper, pencils, erasers, and a calculator to each and every class period for note taking, homework, quizzes and tests.

Course Objectives:
Practical applications are the focal point of this course. Topics include equations and inequalities; linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions and their graphs; solutions of systems of linear equations; matrices; and sequences and series. Prerequesite: MATH 096 or MATH 097 both with a grade of C or better; or a satisfactory ACT/ SAT/ Placement Test Score. Note: This course does NOT serve as a prerequisite for MATH 127 nor is it sufficiently rigorous for entry into Calculus.

Attendance:
Attendance will not be a part of your final grade, but is essential to completely understand the material.

Cell Phone Policy:
Please make a point to turn off or silence your cell phones during class. If it does happen to ring, it's not a crime. Just, as quickly as possible, try to turn it off to end the class disruption. Do not ever answer or talk on your cell during class. Unless given prior permission to answer an expected call, anyone who answers or talks on their phone, during class, will be asked to leave for the day.

ADA:
Any students with medical, psychological, learning or other disabilities desiring academic adjustments, accommodations or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Disability Resource center at (702) 651-5089.

Quizzes:
There will be a 10 point quiz every day of class. It will cover material in the previous day's lecture & homework. All of these quizzes combined will determine the majority of your final class grade. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped from your final semester grade calculation.

Homework:
Following every section of each chapter, homework will be assigned. Every homework problem assigned will have the corresponding answer available in the back of the textbook. It is expected that you check your homework to make sure your answers are matching the correct ones. This way, you will be able to ask appropriate questions, daily, based on your success level the night before. The homework will not be collected, but will be essential practice to prepare you for the daily quizzes.

Tests:
The only test will be your final exam. This will be a comprehensive exam, covering the entire semester's worth of material. It will be worth 100 points.

Grading:
Your final grade will be calculated as follows: Simply, your total quiz score will be added with the points you earn on the final exam and the percent will be calculated. Final semester grades will be rounded to the nearest tenth of a percent (up or down). I will never issue Ws. If you want a W, you must withdraw officially through the college.
